I love hearing that question because I rarely respond to it in the negative. Of course, I’ve read a good book lately. The truth is, I never stop. There are too many people to meet, too many places to discover, too many lessons to learn to ever slow down. Time with books is never wasted.
The reading process is transformational at its core, for it is the art of communication. It’s the elemental interaction between teacher and pupil, storyteller and listener, and playwright and audience. Ideas, emotions, and convictions thread their way across the page creating an intricate tapestry in bold colors that ignite the imagination and inspire the spirit. Why would I want to spend my time doing anything else?
Overstatement? Possibly. But I can think of no other craft that more effectively engages so much of the human experience. From the college textbook to the computer manual, from the newsroom to the big screen, the art of writing is at the heart of it all. That’s why my passion is to learn all I can and to share what I find with anyone who is interested.
